THE IDES OF MARCH

Monday, March 15th, 2010
The colors of springtime.

The colors of springtime.

Welcome to Toms Ponds! Today is the Ides of March, the name given by the ancients to the fifteenth of this month. In classical conversation, this day is best remembered as the date when Julius Caesar was killed in 44BC. However, in horticultural terms, the Ides of March is the date when we can safely prune plant material that was damaged during the winter without fear of another freeze (in the greater Tampa Bay area). It marks the unofficial first day of spring. We may confidently prune, plant and prepare for yet another growing season. Today we all celebrate life, for it is the Ides of March.

Welcome
